How water conditioners work, the science, demystified

Aqua Conditioners use a unique combination of metals in their alloy core. As water flows through, it undergoes turbulence that triggers a catalytic reaction, neutralising the minerals' scaling property. The mineral content stays the same, but the minerals' behaviour changes, giving you river-like, flowy soft water at home.

01

Turbulence & contact

Offset discs in the alloy core force a definite water-to-alloy contact, generating extreme turbulence and thousands of galvanic reactions.

02

Charge reduced

The minerals' electrical charge (zeta potential) drops, so they aggregate into nano-colloids and stay in suspension instead of precipitating.

03

Calcite → Aragonite

Large Calcite molecules become inactive, microscopic Aragonite particles that glide away without sticking to pipes and surfaces.

Four principles behind every unit

1 · Non-sacrificial alloy core

Blended in a specialised foundry process from dissimilar metals selected across the anode, cathode galvanic scale. It is not a sacrificial anode, so it never needs replacing, we still have units working after 30+ years.

2 · Catalytic breakdown & neutralisation

Minerals are drawn to galvanic sites as they flow through. Their zeta potential is reduced, so they aggregate into nano-colloids that remain in suspension rather than precipitate onto pipes and equipment.

3 · Deactivation of scaling properties

Scale that normally sticks to pipes and valves is prevented from forming. Inactive particles stay suspended (like minerals in milk) and flow freely, and any residue wipes away without chemicals.

4 · Premium industrial-grade housing

Made from premium stainless steel, our conditioners are eco-friendly, long-lasting and corrosion- and rust-free, backed by a 5-year warranty.

The physics & the chemistry

Physics: each core has offset discs so there's no direct route for the water to travel. Velocity rises as water is squeezed through the disc apertures, and high- and low-pressure zones either side of each disc create extreme turbulence, a mechanical washing action that keeps minerals from building up on the core.

Chemistry: on contact, the catalytic alloy generates a galvanic reaction that introduces nuclei into the system (epitaxial nucleation). Minerals flocculate around these nuclei as a colloid that stays in solution, much like the billions of nano-sized particles permanently suspended in milk.

Conditioner care, cleaning the alloy core

Conditioner care

There are no consumables to replace. We simply recommend cleaning the unit roughly once a year, after long, continual use the alloy core's surface can pick up a layer of sediment that may affect results. A quick clean restores it.

Disclaimer: This product does not change the TDS or the Hardness of the water. Similar to how a UV purifier nullifies the effects of bacteria, an Aqua Conditioner nullifies the effect of hardness minerals by making them inert, it is a catalytic converter that reduces average particle size and mineral charge (zeta potential) and converts Calcite to Aragonite. Select the right model based on the FLOW RATE of water supplied; improper selection may not give a positive outcome. For sediments, turbidity or murkiness, pre-filtration is recommended.
