What is water conditioning?

Water conditioning is the process of altering minerals and chemicals from a water source. So, what does this actually mean? It means that when natural water passes through thousands of rocks, pebbles and other substances, the harmful hard water elements in the water are broken down into harmless nano-sized particles.

Harmful effects of hard water

Hard water contains a high amount of minerals and salts. While that is not inherently bad, some of them like calcium, magnesium and other elements exhibit an adhesive behaviour that makes them stick, which is what makes them harmful. This can lead to the following issues:

The mechanism of Aqua Conditioners

Aqua Conditioners are compact pipe-like systems that are made from premium-grade stainless steel with a specially designed and formulated alloy core. Each core has offset discs so that the water does not pass through a direct route and has definite contact with the alloy.

The velocity of water increases

When water is squeezed through the closely-packed alloy core discs, the velocity of the water increases, leading to high and low-pressure areas on either side of each disc.

Extreme turbulence is built inside the alloy

Those pressure differences across every disc in turn lead to extreme water turbulence inside the alloy core.

Particles are broken down into nano-sized colloids

Increased water velocity and turbulence create a mechanical washing action that breaks down the hard water minerals into microscopic, harmless particles.

Catalytic deactivation occurs

The catalytic action neutralises the hard water minerals, so they no longer stick to your skin and hair or precipitate on pipes and appliances.

How Aqua Conditioners soften water

Each of our alloy cores is made up of several dissimilar metals scientifically selected from the anode and cathode galvanic scale.

1 · Galvanic reactions along the core

When water passes through the alloy, thousands of intense galvanic electrochemical reactions occur along the length of the alloy core.

2 · Minerals drawn to the reaction sites

The minerals in the water are then attracted to the sites where the galvanic reactions are occurring.

3 · Mineral charge reduced

This reduces the electrical charge of the minerals in water and allows the large, harmful hard water minerals to aggregate and form nano-sized harmless colloids.

4 · Minerals glide instead of sticking

When the water has passed through the length of the alloy, the elements do not have an adhesion property anymore but rather remain suspended in water, causing the water to be soft and glide instead of sticking to skin and hair or precipitating on pipes and appliances.

The physics & the chemistry

Physics: each core has offset discs so there is no direct route for the water to travel. Velocity rises as water is squeezed through the disc apertures, and high- and low-pressure zones either side of each disc create extreme turbulence, a mechanical washing action that keeps minerals from building up on the core.

Chemistry: on contact, the catalytic alloy generates a galvanic reaction that introduces nuclei into the system (epitaxial nucleation). Minerals flocculate around these nuclei as a colloid that stays in solution, much like the billions of nano-sized particles permanently suspended in milk.

Do Aqua Conditioners products reduce TDS?+

TDS, or Total Dissolved Solids, is the amount of organic and inorganic materials dissolved in a particular volume of water. These materials can essentially be anything (like metals, minerals, salts, ions) dissolved in water that is not an H2O molecule.

Aqua Conditioners systems do not alter the TDS present in water but rather break down the harmful metals, minerals, salts and ions into smaller nano-sized colloids to make your shower or tap water softer and healthier to use.

Are Aqua Conditioners systems truly maintenance-free?+

Aqua Conditioners systems require zero maintenance. There are no cartridge replacements every 3 months, no salt recharges every week or two, and absolutely no additional costs for any maintenance, ever.
